Monument Berlin – Under one sky

team: HUNK-design & Studio ID Eddy
category: competition

To commemorate the re-union of Germany in 1989 there was an open call to design a monument for Berlin. In our proposal the sky became the symbol for the unity and freedom of Germany.

The art-piece consists of 2 parts, referring to the former separation and the current union of Germany. The large oval resembles the country, that was divided in two parts, by a shift in height. In the centre of the oval is a big circle with 200 round screens symbolising the re-union. Each screen displays the sky in a different part of the country. The images of the sky are live-stream recordings. In one glimpse the sky over Germany becomes visible and the monument shows that we should look beyond borders.
